Q. Do I need to allow cookies from this site?
A. In a word, yes. This site uses cookies for session management as well as authentication and "remembering" you. We will detail the steps you can use to allow cookies for our site and we'll explain what cookies we issue and why. If all else fails you can try a computer in another location, for example if you are at the office your home computer may work without any trouble.
How can I make sure that cookies are setup correctly so I can use your site and get my magazine?
The easiest solution is to tell your browser to allow all cookies from our site. You can try to change the entire cookie policy for your browser but sometimes network admins prevent this. You should be able to do the following though:
- Internet Explorer
- Select: Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy. Then click the Sites button. Where it asks for "Address Of Website" enter magazinegoldcard.com and click the button that says allow. Click ok, then click ok again. You should now be able to use the site. Go to our homepage and try it out.
- Firefox
- Select: Tools -> Options -> Privacy. In the middle box that reads "History" set the drop down to Remeber History. Alternatively set it to use custom settings for history then check the accept cookies box. If you can't and the box is unchecked, click the exceptions button. In the box "address of website" enter magazinegoldcard.com, then click allow. Now click close and then click ok.
- Chrome
- See here.
But what are you using these cookies for?
Here's a rundown of the cookies we use and what they are for.
- ASP.NET_SessionId
- This is a standard "Session" cookie issued by ASP.NET's runtime services. This allows us to create consistancy for you from page to page.
- IRSAuth
- This cookie is issued after you provide your magazine voucher to the site. Once you have provided it we remember the code as you move through the site. Usually when things aren't working it is this cookie that is being blocked.
- IRS_EncryptedSiteCookie
- This is a cookie that contains 2 values. Your user name and the voucher you have entered. This cookie presists so that when you come back later we know who you are. We encrypt this cookie to prevent tampering.
- EnabledCookieVerificationCookie
- This cookie is issued and then checked for on a second page. If it exists on that second page we know that you are accepting cookies and we don't need to warn you that the site won't work correctly.
